Howard County Veterans Memorial: A Tribute to Those Who Served

Today is Veteran’s Day, the day set aside each year to honor those who have served in the United States military. However, our veterans shouldn’t be just a once-a- year thought. Therefore, when we visit an area that has a veteran’s memorial, we try to see it to pay respects to those who have fought for our freedom. On our recent visit to Kokomo, Indiana, we visited the Howard County Veteran’s Memorial. The memorial, located in Darrough Chapel Park, is dedicated to all Howard County veterans.

Howard County Veterans Memorial

The Howard County Veteran’s Memorial was the dream of Vietnam Veteran Roger Roe. He partnered with local government, business leaders and friends from the UAW Local 292, and his dream became a reality. The memorial’s initial phase was completed in 2000, with more added to it since. The latest addition is the Families Statue Memorial, dedicated in 2015. The Families Statue Memorial is a monument dedicated to the families of the men and women who served in the United States military.

To all the men and women who served, a heartfelt Thank You.

Your best source for information on the memorial is to contact the Greater Kokomo Visitors Bureau at 800-837-0971.
They should be able to help you with that information.
