Lagomarcino’s Ice Cream Parlor & Confectionery, Quad Cities: A Nostalgic Treat

When you walk into Lagomarcino’s in Moline, Illinois, you feel like you’ve taken a step back in time. Many of the furnishings in the ice cream parlor and candy store are originals from when the store opened in the early 20th century.  The furnishings are the only things that are original. The third generation of the founding family keeps recipes as original as possible in this old-fashioned ice cream parlor.

Old-fashioned ice cream parlor

Slide into a custom-made mahogany booth or take a stool at the counter and order a sundae made with homemade ice cream and hot fudge. The hot fudge is made from the same recipe that founder Angelo Lagomarcino began using in 1918.  It’s served on the side in a little pitcher so you can pour it on a little at a time if you’d like, to be sure you get hot fudge with every spoonful of ice cream.

More than ice cream at Lagomarcino’s

If you’re in the mood for more substantial sustenance, Lagomarcino’s serves soups, salads and sandwiches, too.  Try a baked ham sandwich on homemade rye bread. The rye bread recipe is the same one used since the early 1900s.

Try a Lago with your meal

To wash down your sandwich, order a flavored Coke, Green River, or a Lago. Lago is a mix of root beer, Green River and strawberry or cherry flavoring. It was invented in the 1930s by Charlie Lagomarcino, Angelo’s son.

Candy making is another skill  passed down through the Lagomarcino generations.  Before you leave, be sure to pick up rich, creamy truffles, English Toffee or other confection to give as gifts or enjoy later for another wave of nostalgia.
