About

Welcome to Midwest Wanderer!

Do you love a road trip?

If you’re nodding your head yes, then you’re in the right place.

We’re Skip and Connie Reed, empty-nest road trip enthusiasts. We’re pleased to meet you… and we’re excited to share our road trip experiences with you, fellow road tripper.

We’ll bet, like us, you often skip the interstates and travel instead along scenic and historic highways and byways. It may be the slower route, but it’s so much more relaxing, not having to deal with all that traffic.

You see a lot more Americana that way, too… roadside attractions, like Muffler Men or the world’s largest whatever. You stumble across historic sites that you didn’t realize were there… or stop for lunch at small-town, mom-and-pop diners that you know must be good simply by the number of pickup trucks parked there. Those are the kinds of places you’ll learn about in Midwest Wanderer blog posts, podcasts, and videos.

If you enjoy RVing—or cabin stays—check out our newly added RV Life section. Here you’ll find articles on parks or resorts where you can toast marshmallows over a campfire and wake to the sound of birds chirping.

So, we’d love you to follow us as we explore history, nature, and culture through road trips along U.S. highways, byways, and trails.

Enter your email address in the “Subscribe to Midwest Wanderer” box on the right, then click Subscribe, and you’ll get an email notification whenever we publish something new.

Happy wandering!

Skip and Connie Reed

P.S. We’d love to hear about your experiences, too.  Share them in the Comments section of any Midwest Wanderer page.

We have been spending as much time as we can in the Traverse City for years. In addition to hiking, you can snow shoe at the light house. It is also a wonderful place to picnic.

    Hello Connie,
The next time you are in Springfield, Missouri, we invite you to “wander” through Relics Antique Mall, Tea room and Event Center. We are Missouri’s largest antique mall, and are 90,000 square feet of fun! Rest a spell and have lunch in our delicious Tea Room, or at least try one of our freshly made to-die-for desserts.

We have over 500 small businesses (booths) within our walls, and a relaxing, fun environment.

    Thanks!

    Hi Connie,
I read about your blog through AWAI. Your blog is inspiring, not to mention impressive! I am just getting started in travel writing although I have been to many countries across the world. I am also a former Chicagoan now living in sunny South Florida. Would be willing to share some more detailed information with me on how you got started in blogging and what it takes to be a professional “blogger”? Thanks in advance!

Hi Connie, I love your niche; there’s so much to see in the Midwest.

Thought you would like to know that your Shareaholic setting for Twitter spits out “via @Shareaholic” whenever someone shares on Twitter. I’m pretty sure you’d like to change that to your own account. 🙂

By the way, thanks for sharing on #TheWeeklyPostcard. We appreciate the support.

Like everyone to know that the Marshall Carriage Co. & Ghost Tours have a new owner. Brian Mason has sold the Company to David and Sheryl Dowding. They took ownership on July 1 2016. The Dowding’s are still providing customers with Historical Tours, Carriage Ghost Tours and a new Hearse Wagon Ghost Tours, alone with the Walking Ghost Tours and more. Our Website is still under the past owner, so please call for some tours have changed. If your interested in times and availability please call 269-781-8818. All tours are by reservation only.
