The Osler Building, originally constructed as a medical office building, sat vacant from 2006 to 2013 in the declining Midtown district of Oklahoma City. You’d never know that today. Midtown has experienced a renaissance. The area, once blighted, is now filled with trendy restaurants and businesses. In 2013 the Osler Building was completely gutted and transformed into a 54-room boutique hotel, the Ambassador Hotel Oklahoma City, Autograph Collection, where I stayed on my recent visit to Oklahoma City.

The outside of the U-shaped brick building maintains its historical early 20^th century revival style. A vertical hotel sign reminiscent of that era hangs on one corner of the building.

But once you step through the ornate entrance, your surroundings are modern, trendy and sophisticated. The cozy lobby area, decorated with comfortable sofas and chairs accented with throw pillows, invites you to sit and relax for a while. Flames in the fireplace during winter months would make the room even that much more inviting.

The spacious guest rooms maintain the same comfortable but sophisticated feel as the lobby. My room had plenty of space to spread out, with a king-size bed, a sofa and a desk. I appreciated the cozy robe that I found in the armoire, the Keurig coffee maker and the complimentary bottled water and Wi-Fi.

I didn’t get a chance to experience the first-floor Viceroy Grille, but I did make my way up to the 7^th floor O Bar for a cocktail. The O Bar affords a beautiful nighttime view of the city.

I ordered the house punch, which changes weekly, and loved the way it was served in a tea cup.

The Ambassador Hotel Oklahoma City also has a fitness center and an outdoor swimming pool. Valet parking is available. A self-park lot (nominal fee) is about a half-block from the hotel.
