Creekside Retreat: Brown County Lodging Ideal for Everyone

Brown County, Indiana, is often referred to as the “Little Smokies.” Similar to the Smoky Mountains town of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Brown County boasts a wooded, hilly terrain that transforms into a palette of autumn color. Also like Gatlinburg, Brown County is an artist community. During our recent visit to this southern Indiana gem, we stayed at the Creekside Retreat. Creekside Retreat, with plenty of nicely landscaped open space, proved to be the ideal accommodation for us. It’s located minutes from Brown County State Park and a couple miles from downtown Nashville, the center Brown County, Indiana’s, art colony. And with a variety of room and suite options, Creekside Retreat fits everyone’s lodging needs.

How Creekside Retreat differs from hotels

Creekside Retreat is a former apartment complex, spread out over seven buildings. The owners have taken the buildings down to the bricks. They’ve reconfigured floor plans to include various styles of rooms and suites. They’ve installed new everything: electric, plumbing, drywall, flooring, and bathroom fixtures. Soothing green walls and Amish-produced woodwork and doors make the rooms more inviting. In keeping with Brown County natural colors, exterior cedar pillars replace the former white colonial pillars. In addition, common outdoor courtyard areas include seating around “fire boulders.” You can even purchase s’mores fixings at the registration desk.

We stayed in a spacious, comfortable king room. I loved the tree right outside our window.

In the handicapped accessible rooms, one of the beds is lower, making it easier for a disabled person to move from wheelchair to bed. The handicapped accessible rooms also, of course, include an accessible shower.

Weddings, family reunions, and other events

One of the buildings has been transformed into a 2,400 square foot conference center, perfect for weddings, family reunions, and other events. In addition, an adjacent 4,800 square foot patio offers even more space.
