We found a great campground in Savanna, Illinois, in the northwest part of the state near the Mississippi River. In fact, a footpath leads from the Seven Eagles RV Resort and Campground right to the Great River Bike and Hike Trail that runs 62 miles from Savanna to the Quad Cities. You don’t even need an RV to stay at Seven Eagles because they have cabins and a really neat motel, too.
We stayed in the motel, which was more like a cozy country cabin, with a fireplace, a kitchenette with dining table and a separate bedroom in addition to the bed in the main part of the accommodations.
A barbecue grill is available just off the patio, so you can cook outdoors, if you’d like, and then eat at the patio table. At night gather around the fire pit; firewood is included.

You can fish in the campground’s pond…
cool off in the sparkling swimming pool……..
or take advantage of the bike-and-hike trail.
Just a few yards down the trail from the campground is an overlook of Spring Lake, wetlands created from backwaters of the Mississippi River. The overlook is a terrific vantage point for observing wetlands wildlife.
