Oozing with sweet blackberry filling spread over a layer of cream cheese, the blackberry stuffed French toast was the tastiest I’ve ever eaten. A crispy coating (I’m not sure what it was—they said it was secret) contrasted nicely with the filling.
We had read reviews about The Pantry in Tuscola, Illinois, that raved about the lunch soup and sandwiches, as well as the breakfast pastries and coffee. We stopped in hopes that they had more for breakfast than pastries. We were not disappointed.

Skip opted for the build-your-own breakfast sandwich and chose egg, bacon and Swiss cheese on pretzel bread.
While we waited for our food we ogled the desserts in the refrigerated case, desserts like tarts, crème brulee and cheesecakes. The red velvet swirled cheesecake caught my eye.
Besides ready-made soups, sandwiches and coffee, The Pantry sells bulk items like fillings, flavorings and sprinkles for baking, beans, rice, grains, candy and lots more.
The Pantry, located at 1199 Tuscola Boulevard, is adjacent to the Holiday Inn Express at the I-57 212 exit. They are open Tuesday through Saturday 8:30 a.m to 5;30 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday.
