The stadium was quiet on this late October morning, deserted except for a lone maintenance man. Vintage billboard signs that usually line the outfield fence had been taken down to be touched up. There were no roaring crowds or ballplayers in knickered uniforms. But standing in the outfield, looking into the dugout, took me back to the most famous scene of the 1992 movie A League of Their Own, which was filmed here at League Stadium in Huntingburg, Indiana. Howard County Veterans Memorial: A Tribute to Those Who Served

Today is Veteran’s Day, the day set aside each year to honor those who have served in the United States military. However, our veterans shouldn’t be just a once-a- year thought. Therefore, when we visit an area that has a veteran’s memorial, we try to see it to pay respects to those who have fought for our freedom. On our recent visit to Kokomo, Indiana, we visited the Howard County Veteran’s Memorial. The memorial, located in Darrough Chapel Park, is dedicated to all Howard County veterans. Read more

Our dinner with an Amish family

I have visited Amish communities several times over the years. Although I’ve chatted with the folks in shops and restaurants, I’ve never had an opportunity to really get to know them. However, on our recent trip to Elkhart County, Indiana, my husband and I were invited to have dinner with an Amish family. This wasn’t one of the commercial, large group events that you see advertised in Amish areas.
